Electric Bikes

SDT, through Energy Savings Trust, were able to purchase 6 electric bikes, one electric trike and 2 childrens ebikes. Electric bikes are capable of doing everything a normal bike can do and more. The adult e-bikes will assist you up to 15.5 mph and any speed past that point will be up to your leg power alone. You can explore Shapinsay in a fraction of the time, without the same strain on your legs! These are road bikes so please stick to roads to avoid damaging them. You will be provided with a helmet and high vis and are expected to wear these as part of the hire agreement. At the moment, we don’t accept cards, although we are working on this and hope to have a card payment in the near future, please request bacs details if you would like to pay via bank transfer, or bring cash on the day of the hire. There will be a contract to sign on arrival. These bikes are checked over regularly, but if you have any problems, please report them to the person hiring out the bikes. If you have any issues while on the road, please contact the mobile number on below and we will come to your assistance – no roadside assistance membership required 😛

Shapinsay residents go free. Cash preferred, but we do now have a card payment machine, your patience is appreciated while we work out how to use it!

£5 for 2 hours.

£7.50 for a full day.

Residents can hire them for up to 3 days at a time

Please phone/text 07471 751791 or email ebike@shapinsay.org.uk to book a time.

Monday/Friday 9am till 1pm you can pop into the Boathouse to arrange a hire, or if someone happens to be there in the afternoon.
