PLEASE NOTE – IT IS OUR POLICY THAT EBIKES ARE HIRED OUT WITH A HELMET WHICH MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHEN RIDING OUR EBIKES

July 2026 we have just taken delivery of 5 new electric bikes with help from a grant from Hitrans and support from Community Energy Scotland, so we’re delighted to have 5 shiny new bikes available for hire!

Booking – bookings should be made using the website where possible – this can be done below.

For more information, you can pop past the Boathouse or give us a call on Monday/Thursday 9am till 1pm.

Please contact the ebike phone number or email in advance for weekend bookings as emails and calls are not checked over the weekend.

Our ebikes are available to hire for £20 per day for up to a maximum of 3 days. Our non-electric bikes are available to hire for £5 per day for up to a maximum of three days.

Winter special: Throughout the winter months Shapinsay residents can rent our electric bikes for just £5 per day or £20 per week. If a bike is borrowed for more than one day, it must be kept in a shed and kept dry.

You will be provided with a helmet and high vis and are expected to wear these as part of the hire agreement. There will be a contract to sign on arrival. These bikes are checked over regularly, but if you have any problems, please report them to the person hiring out the bikes. If you have any issues while on the road, please contact the office number (01856 711733)

Electric bikes are capable of doing everything a normal bike can do and more. The adult e-bikes will assist you up to 15.5 mph and any speed past that point will be up to your leg power alone. You can explore Shapinsay in a fraction of the time, without the same strain on your legs! These are road bikes so please stick to roads to avoid damaging them.
