Mor Stein
Mor Stein (Locally prounced as Moora stone) is a solitary standing stone, standing approximately 10ft tall. It is a lichen covered Neolithic Standing Stone in the Southeast of Shapinsay. It has been in place for almost 5,000 years just like the Standing Stones found in Stenness. In the 1920s the Mor Stein stone was toppled and then re-established and you can now see a jagged appearance were some of the stone was damaged during this time. Local legend has it that there was a giant on Stronsay that threw it here, possibly while fighting a Shapinsay giant!
